Just in time for the holidays. The Michigan-based k-Space facility currently looks like Santa’s workshop, as our production engineers are working like elves to build a full suite of metrology tools, destined for a new solar plant that will begin production in the United States in 2025.

From Santa’s workshop

k-Space solar panel metrology tools help solar panel companies improve quality and ramp-up production by inspecting panels for potential defects. This latest solar plant order includes metrology tools for:

  • Panel Edge Inspection to detect chips, cracks, debris, dual-pane offset, and shiners on the production line, for real-time quality control. Early inline identification of edge defects reduces the chance of downstream glass breakage and potential losses.
  • Barcode Inspection to confirm the value, location, and dimensions of the barcode on each panel, before coating. Our barcode inspection tool can even restore bad or misaligned barcodes, ensuring faster throughput and supplier compliance.
  • Film Thickness Determination through our proprietary in-situ and ex-situ film thickness tools that calculate semi-transparent thin-film thickness. The k-Space software analyzes the below-gap spectral interference fringes to determine the total film thickness in real-time, all without impeding panel production.

Not just during the holidays, but at any time of the year, our most popular solar panel inspection tools include:

  • Glass Breakage and Defect Detection
  • Panel Thickness and Flatness Determination
  • Edge Profile Inspection
  • Spectral Reflectance Measurement
  • Sheet Resistance (Sheet RHO) Calculation

We look forward to shipping out these tools just before the holidays.
